Australian universities like UNSW graduate thousands of students every year whose understanding, expectations and actions will shape behaviour in broader communities. As students today, you will be leaders, colleagues and parents of tomorrow. You will influence culture in workplaces and homes around the world for decades to come.

We encourage everyone to commit to creating and supporting a safe environment for all, whether you are learning with us on campus, or online.

Safety Support on Campus

Here are 3 resources to help you stay safe whilst you are on campus:

  1. StaySafe@UNSW App – download this from the App store, Google Play or wherever you get your apps from.
  2. Late Escort Bus – this bus will shuttle you around campus in the evenings. Look for the bus stops around campus.
  3. Courtesy Bus to Central Station – this bus will take you from main campus to Central Station in town.

Staying Safe Online and on Mobile Phones

  • Set strong passwords, particularly for important online accounts.
  • Do not disclose identity information through email or online unless you have initiated the contact, and you know the other person involved.
  • Be wary of any emails promising you money, good health or a solution to all your problems.
  • SCAMS are highly professional and are designed to make you believe they are authentic. SCAMS will often target international students so please be aware of any calls from an authority (like an embassy or foreign police) saying that you are  in trouble and need to pay a fine. Never offer personal information to someone you do not know. It is likely to be a SCAM and is highly illegal. Please alert our Student Support team immediately. You can report directly to the police if you receive a call from a SCAM.
  • Cyber-bullying is intentional, repeated behaviour by an individual or group to cause distress or undue pressure to others using technology.
  • If you are being bullied online, you must alert our Student Support team who will help you to deal with this.

If you ever need help on campus or online, see the Important Student Contacts page on who to contact for professional and caring support.
